When to see a doctor
- You or your partner notice pauses in your breathing, gasping or choking during sleep.
- You feel very tired during the day, or nod off without meaning to, even after a full night in bed.
- You wake with headaches, high blood pressure has been mentioned, or your snoring has suddenly got worse.
- A child is snoring regularly.
These can be signs of obstructive sleep apnea or another condition that needs proper assessment. Over-the-counter anti-snoring devices are designed for simple snoring and are not a treatment for sleep apnea.
Using devices safely
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Check with a dentist before using a mouthpiece if you have crowns, implants, loose teeth, gum disease or jaw (TMJ) problems. Stop using any device that causes pain.
If you think you have a medical emergency, call your local emergency number immediately.
